As we continue our spotlight series on Tingdene Group’s Core Values, this month we are focusing on one that has shaped our business from the very beginning: Family.

What does ‘Family’ mean to us?

The idea of a family business will mean something different to each person across Tingdene Group.

In its most simplistic form, we are a third-generation family business that started with Jim Gibbard in 1969. Whilst that business and its operational format has changed over more than 50 years, we remain in private ownership by the same Gibbard family.

But more than ownership, family goes beyond those roots of founders and is about how we work with one another every day: valuing relationships, showing empathy, and thinking long term. It’s about supporting each other through every season, celebrating successes, and sharing the load when challenges arise.

Here’s what some colleagues describe when they talk about what Family means to them at Tingdene:

  • Treating each other with respect, care, and kindness, even on the busiest of days.

  • The sense of belonging when you join Tingdene – you’re not just a number, you’re part of the team.

  • Working together to solve challenges and supporting one another professionally and personally.

  • The long-standing relationships we have with colleagues and customers, built over years – sometimes decades.

  • Creating an environment where people feel valued and able to grow.

How we see ‘Family’ in action

Family at Tingdene is seen in the everyday moments: a colleague checking in on someone who needs support, a team pulling together during busy seasons, or long-standing customers returning year after year because they feel at home.

The idea of a Family business isn’t just about the past and the now, it’s also about the future we are building together, ensuring stability and opportunity for the next generation of colleagues, owners, and customers.

We value longevity in relationship and performance which is why in recent times we have looked to celebrate colleagues who have achieved success or long-serving milestones helping to shape Tingdene Group into what it is today.

Looking after our Tingdene family

Family also means having an awareness of our colleagues and their personal experience or circumstances. Over recent years, we have launched and shared updates in relation to:

  • Increased annual leave entitlement

  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and shared parental leave policies

  • Mental Health Awareness and sleep therapy webinars

  • Funding support to charities, local communities and environmental projects

  • Discounted employee benefits for holiday accommodation

  • Employee Assistance Program with Health Assured available to our team members and their immediate families

We are pleased to announce that over the next couple of days we will be sharing a further enhancement to our paternity leave, continuing to strengthen the support we offer to families across the business.

These changes reflect our commitment to supporting colleagues and their loved ones through life’s important moments.

Why it matters?

By focusing on the concept of Family, we are investing in relationships that endure – building an organisation that looks beyond short-term gains and works for the long term. This value is a commitment to each other, to our customers, and to the legacy of Tingdene itself.
